U.S. Representative Jimmy Panetta, who serves California’s 19th district, shared a series of updates on August 18, 2025, addressing local postal service improvements, the opening of a national monument, and concerns about federal emergency preparedness programs.

In a post at 16:27 UTC, Panetta responded to community concerns following the destruction of the Almaden Valley Post Office. He wrote: “After hearing from Almaden Valley residents about the challenges of limited mail pick-up hours following the destruction of their Post Office, I pushed USPS to expand service. The Willow Glen Post Office will now offer extended pick-up hours for Almaden Valley PO Box customers”.

Later that day at 17:30 UTC, Panetta announced progress on a major conservation project in his district: “After years of collaboration, planning, and community input, the Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument is officially open to the public. This is what happens when federal, state, tribal, and local partners work together to protect our landscapes and keep them accessible for all.”

At 19:00 UTC on August 18, Panetta addressed national disaster readiness in light of increasingly severe weather events. He stated: “Severe weather is hitting harder and more often, yet the Admin is dismantling the very programs and expertise that keep Americans safe. I joined my colleagues in calling for the immediate restoration of FEMA, NWS, NOAA, and USGS capacity so our communities can prepare and”.

Panetta has represented California’s 19th District since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr. Born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and currently residing in Carmel Valley at age 53, he holds degrees from UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
