Representative Jimmy Panetta, who serves in the U.S. Congress for California’s 19th district, has publicly shared his recent activities and views on relevant legislative matters. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1969, Panetta has lived in Carmel Valley and has been a part of Congress since 2017, succeeding Sam Farr. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Davis, obtained in 1991, and a Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University, earned in 1996.

On April 10, 2025, Panetta expressed his intent to engage personally with constituents following a series of 14 town hall meetings. He announced that “After 14 town halls, I’m continuing the conversation one-on-one. I’ll be back in South San Jose this Sunday (April 13) from 1:30–4:30 PM for office hours to help with federal issues and hear your concerns.” Constituents have the opportunity to request a time slot through a provided link.

In another statement released on April 10, 2025, Panetta shared his viewpoint on trade policies, mentioning that “The President paused most of his tariffs due to appropriate economic and political pressures. Congress must do more to reclaim our authority under our Constitution over trade.” His remarks highlight concerns over legislative powers related to trade.

On the same date, Panetta addressed the SAVE Act, articulating his opposition to a proposed measure affecting voter rights. He pointed out that “It is already against the law for non-citizens to vote in a federal election. I voted no on the SAVE Act because it goes well beyond stopping undocumented individuals from voting, preventing and putting up unnecessary hurdles for eligible Americans to exercise their right to vote.” His stance reflects apprehension about potential voting restrictions the act might impose.

Panetta continues to actively contribute to discussions on trade and voter rights, while maintaining close engagement with his constituents. More details about his congressional service and educational background are available here.
