On March 18, 2025, Panetta expressed his opinion about the administration’s responsibility to deliver Social Security benefits without delay or unnecessary challenges. He stated, “The American people have earned their Social Security benefits, and they need a federal government that ensures those benefits are delivered, promptly, efficiently, and without unnecessary obstacles.” He further criticized the direction under Elon Musk’s leadership.
In another tweet posted on the same day, Panetta highlighted his role as a congressman in assisting constituents with navigating federal systems. He noted the importance of providing services related to Social Security casework by saying “As a member of Congress, I take pride in helping my constituents navigate the federal system.” He emphasized pushing agencies for results and cutting through red tape.
Further emphasizing the impact within his district, Panetta pointed out that over 140,000 individuals in California’s 19th Congressional District rely on Social Security. On March 18th he stated “In California’s 19th Congressional District alone, over 140,000 people rely on Social Security.” He warned that cuts would lead to increased wait times affecting retirees, children, and disabled workers.
