City of Del Rey Oaks issued the following announcement on Nov 6.
Pursuant to a local Emergency Proclamation for ratified by the Del Rey Oaks City Council at their March 24 Council meeting, City Manager Dino Pick announced a number of public health initiatives to slow the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. The Emergency Proclamation mirrors other national, state and local declarations that are intended to help slow the spread of the Coronavirus. These proclamations allow local governments to focus on essential services, suspend non-essential functions or events, and limit the unnecessary exposure of residents and staff to the virus. Limiting exposure is a vital component in slowing the spread of Coronavirus. Slowing the spread of the Coronavirus will give emergency responders, medical professionals, and vaccine-manufacturers time to prepare and respond to the outbreak.
Several factors influenced this decision. First, Del Rey Oaks has a higher than average elderly and at-risk population, which this virus can significantly impact, whose safety is paramount. Second, Del Rey Oaks is a small community with limited resources and a small but dedicated municipal workforce that must remain able to respond to the needs of those it serves. Finally, Del Rey Oaks wishes to work cooperatively with its regional governmental partners and this Proclamation will place its response framework on equal footing with its municipal neighbors who have also made similar declarations.
To protect our residents, businesses and staff the City have implement the following measures:
- Police and Fire service continue unchanged.
- Public Works continues to support key infrastructure while minimizing contact with the public.
- City administrative staff continues to work remotely to minimize the potential spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus, therefore City offices are closed to the public, while staff will continue to be reachable by phone and email.
- City Hall, Old Town Hall and the public restrooms in the park will be closed until further notice.
- The City park will remain open for the enjoyment of our residents and visitors, while large gatherings and parties will be discouraged.
- Pony League Baseball in the park has been canceled by the Seaside Pony League.
- The City’s website, social media sights and kiosks will continue to be the source for official City updates
- City staff implemented remote meeting processes for City Council and Planning Commission meetings as permitted by Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-25-20. Meeting agendas will be minimized to essential City business as much as possible. Staff will notice the meetings and ensure public comment.
The City website will continue to have the latest links to County, State and National information concerning the Coronavirus accessible via the links at the top of this page.
We appreciate our community’s understanding and cooperation in these matters and we are here to answer questions and provide assistance in any way we are able. Finally, our small community is best when it comes together. Caring for our elderly and other vulnerable residents will happen best when we care for each other.
