A cold shooting night from long range proved too much for Cal State Monterey Bay to overcome as Cal State Dominguez Hills held off the Otters for a 75–64 win Thursday night in The Torodome.

The CCAA's top 3–point shooting duo of Jordan Archie (Bishop Montgomery HS) and Joe Wall (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) went just 2-for-14 from beyond the arc with the outcome still in doubt. Both were 1-for-7 from deep until Wall scored the games final three points in the closing moments.

The Otters led early and the game was tied at 42–42 when a David Cheatom jumper started a 9–0 run that gave the Toros the lead for good. CSUMB pulled to within a single possession twice down the stretch, but never again got over the hump.

Jailen Nelson (Carlsbad HS) led three Otters in double figures with 13 points. He added a game–high eight rebounds. Archie scored 11 points while Levi Frankland (Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia) chipped in 10 with a game–high four assists.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… DJ Guest grabbed a defensive rebound for the hosts with just under a minute remaining and the Toros leading 75–64.

ICE, ICE BABY… CSUMB's 26.1 percent effort (6-for-23) from 3–point range was its second coldest shooting night of the season from distance. The Otters made 23 per from long range against San Francisco State on Dec. 31.

MOVIN' ON UP… With a pair of 3–pointers Thursday night at Dominguez Hills, Joe Wall moved up to No. 17 on the Otter single–season list with 47 treys through 13 games. Rocky Steryo own the all–time CSUMB record with 93 in 31 games during the 2001–02 season. Jay Demaestri set the CSUMB Division II era record with 81 in 29 games over the 2005–06 season.

BRITTON REACHES THE CENTURY MARK… Freshman guard Ameere Britton reached the 100–point mark exactly with six points Thursday night at Dominguez Hills.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Jailen Nelson 13. REBOUNDS: Jailen Nelson 8. ASSISTS: Levi Frankland 4. BLOCKS: Jordan Archie/Charles Johnston/Joe Wall/Jared Williams 1. STEALS: Jailen Nelson 3.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their brief roadtrip Saturday in Hayward with the first round of the Battle of the Bays at Cal State East Bay. Tip-off will be at 3 p.m. as the nightcap of doubleheader action with the Otter women.
