1

Vanguard University Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 22.

Five men's cross country runners recorded personal-bests at the Titan Invitational as Vanguard finished fifth out of 11 teams on Friday evening.

What Happened?: Justin Bartlebaugh (SO/Riverside, CA) and Evan Hernandez (FR/Menifee, CA) established 8,000-meter personal bests to place among the top-15 in the field of 149 athletes.

Bartlebaugh's 24:49.2 trimmed a minute and five seconds off his previous PR of 25:54. His 24:49 time ranks No. 4 all-time for VU men in the 8K and is No. 1 all-time for the sophomore class. He finished eighth overall, securing his second top-10 showing of the season.

Hernandez continued his solid debut season with a time of 25:15.9, which ranks No. 4 all-time at Vanguard for freshmen. He improved his personal-best by 26 seconds as his time was good for 13th place.

Jordan Travis (JR/Fresno, CA) came in 49th place with a PR of 26:13.4, smashing his old best mark by one minute and three seconds.

Next to finish for the Lions was Brandon Tressler (SO/Lake Forest, CA) (27:45.2) and Hadley Putnam (SO/Bothell, WA) (27:56.7). Putnam rewrote his personal-best by 49 seconds.

Also competing for Vanguard was James Cochran (FR/Gilbert, AZ), who finished in 28:05.9, an improvement by almost a minute (29:04) over his previous best time.

Riverside CC won the team title with 34 points, followed by Valor Track Club (52), Orange Coast College (108) and Loyola Marymount (127).

What Was Said: "Our men's team really stepped up to another level today, lowering their season best team time by over two minutes, including several huge lifetime bests," said Head Coach Bryan Wilkins. "Today was a great tune-up for GSAC in two weeks."

What's Next: The Lions will turn their attention to the Golden State Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 6 at Central Park in Santa Clarita.
