On May 21, 2022 at about 7:00 PM Seaside Police Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of La Salle Avenue for a report of a 10-year-old female child being struck by a vehicle. The child suffered a head injury and significant fractures. Upon police arrival officers discovered the person driving the vehicle that struck the child had fled the scene. The child was transported to Stanford Medical Center at Stanford University where she was treated and survived her injuries.
During the investigation witnesses were contacted, surveillance footage was examined and probable cause was developed to believe 51-year-old Stephanie BROADDUS was the person who struck the child and fled in violation of felony hit-and-run.
With the assistance of the California Highway Patrol BROADDUS was contacted in Madera County where she admitted to her involvement in the collision. She was released by CHP after being interviewed.
On 06-01-2022 at about 10:00 PM a Seaside Police Officer spotted BROADDUS driving near Fremont Boulevard and San Pablo Avenue. She was stopped and found to be intoxicated with alcohol. BROADDUS was placed under arrest and booked for the following:
1. California Vehicle Code § 20001(a) – Felony - Hit and run causing injury,
2. California Vehicle Code § 23152(a) – Misdemeanor - Driving while under the influence,
3. California Vehicle Code § 23152(b) – Misdemeanor - Driving with a BAC over 0.08%, and
4. California Vehicle Code § 22350 – Infraction - Unsafe speed
This case was solved through our strong partnership with our amazing community. Without those community members who came forward to be witnesses and those who came forward with evidence this case may have not have been solved.
