Michael Gutierrez | Superintendent/President
The sun came out on Friday afternoon just in time to show a proper Salinas Valley welcome to Hartnell College’s new superintendent/president at a dessert reception in his honor. Michael Gutierrez, formerly the president of Sacramento City College, thanked the enthusiastic group of faculty, staff, students, and trustees gathered in the courtyard, and let them know how excited he was to get started in his new role as superintendent/president of Hartnell.
“It’s a beautiful campus and a very welcoming environment,” he said, before inviting people to say hello when they saw him around campus or in the hallways, vowing to learn everyone’s names. “I thank you for your warm hospitality, and I’m looking forward to having a great tenure at Hartnell.”
He then introduced Vice President of Human Resources and EEO Dianna Rose, who also started work on Friday. She said she was excited to be working at Hartnell and especially glad to have the chance to work with Mr. Gutierrez, of whom she had heard wonderful things. Rose has 27 years of human resources administration experience, including 11 years with the California Community Colleges, most recently at the City College of San Francisco. Rose holds a juris doctor degree from the University of Utah College of Law, a master of business administration degree with an emphasis in training and organizational development from Westminster College, and a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Phoenix.
“We are so excited to welcome new members to our leadership team,” said Dean of Academic Affairs for Nursing and Health Sciences Dr. Debra Kaczmar. “We are confident that they will be successful at Hartnell.”
Board Chair Erica Padilla-Chavez was enthusiastic about Gutierrez’s arrival. “The entire Board welcomes Michael to the Hartnell family, and is excited about the future of the college with him at the helm.”
Gutierrez earned a bachelor’s degree in history and Latin American studies from Princeton University, a master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Texas at Austin, and is completing a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.
