Late Goal Not Enough For Otters In Turlock

Tiger Rendon’s first collegiate goal comes in 2-1 defeat at Stanislaus State

Redshirt freshman Tiger Rendon (Fresno/Central HS) scored her first collegiate goal Sunday night, but it wasn't enough to stop CCAA rival Stanislaus State from claiming a 2–1 nonconference victory in Warrior Stadium.

Rendon tracked down a long cross from Catalina Villegas (Clovis HS/UNLV) and curled one inside the upper right vee in the 88th minute. Rendon had a chance to tie the game inside the final minute when sophomore Madison Wilson (San Ramon/California HS) sprung her in alone on goal. Rendon deked Warrior goalkeeper Alexia Estrada, but defender Abby Martinez blocked Rendon's attempt at an exposed cage with 54 seconds left to preserve the Warrior lead.

Stanislaus scored both of its goals midway through the first half. Otter goalkeeper Maleni Morales (Fremont/Mission San Jose HS) made seven stops, shutting out Stanislaus over the final 56 minutes to give her side a chance.

CSUMB (0–1–1 overall) returns to action Thursday with a trip to Wine Country to take on Pac West Conference rival Dominican University. The Otters return home to the Otter Sports Complex to face Academy of Art Saturday (Sept. 3).
