Southern California University of Health Sciences named a “2022 Great College to Work For”

This honor puts SCU in elite company

 Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For® program.

The results, released this week, are accessible at GreatCollegesList.com and are featured in The Chronicle of Higher Education special insert. SCU’s results are featured on an individual page, as well.

 The results are based on a survey of 212 colleges and universities. In all, 68 of those institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium, and large institutions, with SCU included among small universities with 500 to 2,999 students.

SCU is receiving honors in four categories this year:

  • Compensation & Benefits;
  • Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness;
  • Confidence in Senior Leadership;
  • Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging
SCU has been recognized four times in the past decade, in years 2022; 2014; 2012; and 2011.

Founded in 1911, SCU has been a leader in educating students to be competent and caring integrative healthcare practitioners for over 100 years. SCU is a private, non-profit health sciences institution, accredited by WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) with 10 academic programs, and significant program expansion planned to meet the growing needs for the future of healthcare.

“This is a very satisfying affirmation of SCU, but our real goal is not recognition – it’s being a community that values the needs and contributions of every individual as we challenge convention and embrace collaboration. In that sense everyone at SCU helps to Go Beyond, making our campus a great place to work, as we transform and redefine health and healthcare education,” said SCU President John Scaringe, DC, EdD.

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.

The Great Colleges to Work For® program is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. For more information and to view all current and previous recognized institutions, visit the Great Colleges program website at GreatCollegesProgram.com and GreatCollegesList.com. ModernThink, a strategic human capital consulting firm, administered the survey and analyzed the results.

“During an era when the Higher Education headlines have been dominated by stories of faculty and staff being overworked, undervalued, highly stressed and fighting off burnout it’s refreshing and inspiring to see SCU being recognized for the truly excellent work being done across our University,” said Siti Williams, Director of People and Culture.
