Rep. Jimmy Panetta, representing California's 19th District in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of tweets discussing legislative efforts and issues concerning police officers and marriage equality for disabled adults.

On January 25, 2025, Rep. Panetta highlighted bipartisan cooperation in passing a bill to honor police officers who defended the Capitol during the attack on January 6. "Republicans and Democrats came together to pass and have signed into law a bipartisan bill to have a plaque made to honor the police officers who fought off the attack at the Capitol on Jan 6". He noted that Speaker Johnson has yet to display this plaque within the Capitol premises.

In another tweet posted shortly thereafter on January 25, Rep. Panetta emphasized the importance of acknowledging accountability and truth while honoring the actions of U.S. Capitol Police. "Accountability matters, the truth matters, and the actions of U.S. Capitol Police mattered that day and should be honored accordingly and especially under this law."

Later that day, Rep. Panetta turned his attention towards marriage equality for disabled adults by referencing Shane and Hannah’s story as an example of love intertwined with caregiving. "Shane and Hannah’s story shows that love and caregiving are in many ways intertwined." He mentioned his role in authoring and introducing legislation titled Marriage Equality for Disabled Adults Act aimed at ensuring all couples can live without fear regardless of ability.
