Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing California's 19th district since 2017, recently shared a series of tweets discussing the importance of checks and balances in democracy. Panetta, a graduate of the University of California, Davis, and Santa Clara University, emphasized citizen engagement in governmental processes through virtual town halls.

On February 8, 2025, Rep. Panetta tweeted about the importance of the system of checks and balances in government. He invited constituents to join his telephone town hall on February 10th to learn more about ongoing democratic efforts. "Our system of checks and balances is flexing its muscles. Join my telephone townhall on Monday, February 10th to learn more about the ongoing work for our democracy."

In a follow-up tweet on February 10, 2025, Panetta expressed concerns over executive actions by the current administration. He urged participation in his telephone town hall to discuss strategies for addressing these issues. "From executive orders to policy rollbacks, this Administration is doing everything it can to flood the zone and wear us down with news."

After conducting the virtual town hall on February 11, 2025, Panetta thanked participants for their involvement in discussing executive overreach and maintaining democratic integrity. He acknowledged the significance of public engagement in protecting democracy. "Thank you to everyone who joined my virtual town hall to discuss how our system of checks and balances is flexing its muscles to combat executive overreach."
