Rep. Jimmy Panetta, serving California's 19th district since 2017, has voiced concerns over proposed changes to the Social Security system through a series of tweets. Panetta highlights the potential impact on his constituents and calls for transparency and oversight regarding the administration's plans.

In a tweet dated March 13, 2025, Rep. Panetta noted the significance of Social Security in his district: "In CA-19 alone, over 140,000 people rely on Social Security, with $282 million in benefits going out each month. These cuts will mean longer wait times, fewer resources, and more barriers for those who need help the most."

On the same day, he expressed concern about administrative changes under the Trump Administration: "The Trump Admin has plans to close nearly 50 field offices, slash the workforce by 12%, and make it harder for retirees, disabled workers, and survivors to access the benefits they’ve earned."

Additionally, Rep. Panetta emphasized Congress's role in overseeing such changes: "Congress has a Constitutional responsibility to provide oversight and investigate. We cannot allow an unelected billionaire to act in secret and take away the hard-earned money of America’s seniors. We need full transparency of what DOGE is doing at the Social Security…"
