CIty of Salinas issued the following announcement on Nov. 8.
Did you know that the City of Salinas can conduct certain building inspections virtually? The Building Inspection Services Division established a Virtual Inspection Program during
the pandemic, which will continue as an alternative to onsite inspections to accommodate the public for specific inspection types. Inspections are vital to protect life and property,
and virtual inspections serve as an efficiency tool to ensure installations are completed safely. At the time of permit issuance, project applicants will be notified if the associated
project can be completed virtually.
During fiscal year 2020-2021, staff completed 152 virtual inspections out of 12,498 inspections for the year. Since July 2021, 181 virtual inspections out of 3,409 total inspections
during this four-month period have been completed.
The City is expanding the scope of virtual inspection services to provide a more convenient alternative to the public. This compliance measure will also reduce overall expenses for
vehicles, safety of staff, and reduce emissions and traffic.
