After a highly competitive selection and recruitment process, the City of Seaside is pleased to announce that Nicholas (Nick) Borges has been selected as the City’s new Police Chief.
Chief Borges has been serving as Acting Police Chief since the departure of Chief Abdul Pridgen in August 2021. Borges has demonstrated strong ethical and moral compass, principled-based leadership with a record of success in modern law enforcement management and implementing best practices that include police operations, investigations, support services and administration.
Chief Borges has been with the Seaside Police Department since 2003. Rising through the ranks, starting as a patrol officer and then promoted steadily over the course of 20 years. Borges expanded his knowledge and experience as a Special Response Unit Tactical Commander, Commander and Deputy Police Chief. While serving as Acting Chief, Borges supported and facilitated the department’s vision, mission and values.
When notified of the appointment, Chief Borges stated, "I am honored to take on this position and eager to continue working alongside the department and the community that I respect and love."
City Manager Jaime Fontes, had the distinct pleasure of appointing Chief Borges, stating, “If you hire character, a community can trust its local police force. We look forward to working with Chief Borges in providing the type of policing Seaside truly deserves.”
Chief Borges earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Management and has a Masters in Organizational Leadership from California Coast University. He also holds several professional certificates, including a recent completion of the Harvard Kennedy School Senior Executive in State & Local Government Program.
Mayor Ian Oglesby stated, “Chief Borges is highly regarded in the Seaside Police Department and has earned the trust and respect of our diverse community”
“I am confident Chief Borges is the right person for the job at this time. I know he will focus first on community safety and bridging the gaps in trust and communication between our residents and our police department, moving Seaside forward.” Mayor Oglesby said
