Rep Jimmy Panetta shares thoughts on cultural celebrations and political issues

Rep. Jimmy Panetta, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 19th district since 2017, shared his recent activities and views through a series of tweets on January 29, 2025.

In one tweet, Panetta expressed his honor in celebrating the Year of the Wood Snake with the Vietnamese community in Little Saigon. He emphasized that "Tet is a time to reflect on resilience, family, and tradition," and highlighted the importance of building opportunity and unity in South San Jose. "Chúc mừng Năm Mới! Honored to celebrate the Year of the Wood Snake with our Vietnamese community in the heart of Little Saigon. Tet is a time to reflect on resilience, family, and tradition. Together, we’ll keep building opportunity and unity in South San Jose." (January 29, 2025).

Later that day, Panetta reported having had a productive meeting with Nick Smith, the new mayor of Pacific Grove City. He conveyed optimism about their collaboration to support local priorities within this city known for its beauty. "Had a great meeting with new Pacific Grove City Mayor Nick Smith. Looking forward to working together to support the community and strengthen the local priorities of this beautiful city." (January 29, 2025).

In another tweet from January 29th, Panetta criticized decisions to withdraw from global climate agreements. He warned that such actions undermine U.S leadership on climate action while jeopardizing planetary health and economic status as a global leader. Alongside colleagues, he reaffirmed commitment towards sustainable futures."Withdrawing from global climate agreements undermines US leadership on climate action and puts our planet, economy & status as a global leader at risk. I joined my colleagues condemning this decision and reaffirming our commitment to a sustainable future."
