City of Monterey recently issued the following announcement.
The 2022 update to the Monterey County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan is now available for public review. The 2022 Monterey County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard
Mitigation Plan is a comprehensive update to the 2016 Plan. The Plan includes unincorporated Monterey County, the cities of Carmel-by-the-Sea, Del Rey Oaks, Gonzales,
Greenfield, King, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Salinas, Sand City, Seaside, and Soledad, as well as the Monterey County Water Resources Agency, the Carmel Area
Wastewater District, Monterey One Water, the Monterey Regional Waste Management District, and the Moss Landing Harbor District.
The County and local jurisdictions are required to update their hazard mitigation plan every five years to remain eligible for federal mitigation funding. The hazard mitigation plan
describes the County’s vulnerability to various hazards, along with an array of actions and projects for reducing risk. Hazard mitigation actions are essential to breaking the disaster
cycle of damage, reconstruction, and repeated damage. With careful selection, they can be long-term, cost-effective means of reducing risk and help create a more sustainable
and disaster-resilient community.
An open public involvement process is essential to the development of an effective plan. The community is encouraged to review the updated draft plan and provide comments.
Comments will be accepted through 5 pm PT on March 11, 2022. Comments will be reviewed by the planning team and incorporated into the final plan as appropriate.
