Rep. Jimmy Panetta, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 19th district, recently shared his views on economic policies through a series of tweets. Panetta, who has been serving since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr, voiced concerns about tariffs and budget resolutions proposed by the current administration.
On February 13, 2025, Panetta criticized President Trump's tariff policies in a tweet: "President Trump’s reckless tariffs on Canada & Mexico will cost American families $1,200 a year & hurt our economy. That’s why I led my @WaysMeansCmte colleagues in demanding the administration reverse course."
Later that day, he expressed his disapproval of the Majority's budget resolution in another tweet: "A budget is more than numbers, it’s a statement of our values. The Majority's’ budget resolution threatens working families, slashes critical programs, and makes unrealistic economic projections. We need a responsible budget that strengthens, not weakens, our economy."
In a subsequent tweet on February 13, 2025, Panetta participated in a press conference as part of the Budget Committee. He stated: "Proud to participate in a press conference as a Member of the Budget Committee. Prouder to be able to call out the Republican Majority and their budget resolution as they claim economic growth, harmful cuts, and tariffs will pay for it."
