Rep. Jimmy Panetta, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district, shared a series of tweets on April 8, 2025, reflecting his recent activities and concerns for constituents. Panetta, who succeeded Sam Farr in 2017, discussed his engagement with community events and the economic challenges under the Trump administration affecting his district.
On the morning of April 8, Panetta attended the Monterey Chamber awards dinner where he presented the Ruth Vreeland Public Official of the Year Award to Sand City Mayor Mary Ann Carbone. In his post, he highlighted her contributions, stating, "Proud to attend the Monterey Chamber awards dinner and present the Ruth Vreeland Public Official of the Year Award to Sand City Mayor Mary Ann Carbone. Her decades of service, advocacy, and leadership have made a lasting impact. Congratulations, Mary Ann!"
In another tweet later that day, Panetta addressed the economic impact of policies implemented by the Trump administration, specifically focusing on small business owners in California's 19th district. He wrote, "Small business owners across CA-19 are feeling the impact of Trump’s tariffs. I brought together local businesses to highlight how economic anxiety, tariffs, and uncertainty are already hitting Main Street and the important work ahead to support our small businesses."
Later in the afternoon, Panetta criticized the Trump administration's policies again, asserting that they were damaging the Social Security system. He tweeted, "The Trump Administration’s reckless actions are crashing the Social Security website and threatening the benefits of 73 million Americans. Disabled children, retirees, and vulnerable families are being left in the dark, all so Elon Musk’s DOGE team can gut essential services."
