Jimmy Panetta, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 19th district, recently shared his views on a government funding bill through a series of tweets. Panetta has been serving in Congress since 2017 and resides in Carmel Valley. He holds degrees from the University of California, Davis, and Santa Clara University.
On March 14, 2025, Panetta expressed his opposition to a partisan government funding bill that he claims "cuts essential services for working families, veterans, and seniors while failing to invest in our communities." He attributed the lack of negotiation to Speaker Johnson and stated his reasons for voting against the package when it was presented. "The partisan government funding bill cuts essential services for working families, veterans, and seniors while failing to invest in our communities."
In another tweet posted on the same day, Panetta called upon the Senate to take a firm stand against the bill. He highlighted specific concerns including cuts to housing assistance which could lead to evictions, insufficient disaster relief funds replenishment, inadequate care for veterans exposed to toxic substances, and reductions in investments. "Now it's in the Senate and on the Senate to stand firm."
Further expressing his disapproval on March 14, 2025, Panetta mentioned prominent figures Donald Trump and Elon Musk as part of those he believes are undermining essential services for Americans. He emphasized the need for responsible governance over what he termed as reckless cuts. "I refuse to let Donald Trump and Elon Musk gut the essential services that Americans have earned."
